Pillar of Support
This was probably the most fun project I've done in a while. Really a nice difference from the usual ones I've done prior to this.
I essentially went for this pillar 3d model that I made in Rhino 5.
Hey look, cut-outs. I had to redo it in a bigger scale mainly because the smaller it was the harder it was to actually do the gluing.
The very first Prototype.
Where the tabs are to make sure it stays together. However...
I made a sizing mistake, so only 4 tabs were actually used, but the extra tabs helped keep the whole object look flush from the outside.
Finally the tab to close up the bottom, and the top.
Voila! A pillar! Amazing.
Don't touch me or my son ever again. |
A couple of things that I realized when I was making this. The bigger the object is, the more a stiffer paper would be useful. While I'm content with how it ended up, there were a couple of non straightened sides that I wish were a lot better than what it is atm. Second, I intend to make the tabs more efficient especially with the last side. While I think it worked great on this one, I believe there is a better way of doing this.
That pretty much summarizes my experience with creating my own object and creating a paper craft version of it in real life! Toodles.
